Ensuring Secure Ownership of Mobile Shares with End-to-End Encryption

Inheriti® takes security seriously, especially when handling encrypted shares across different devices.

While SafeKey Pro shares never leave your browser and are directly distributed to the cold storage device, SafeKey Mobile shares are (temporarily) stored in the Inheriti® Vault before being claimed.

Because these mobile shares pass through the cloud, we've implemented end-to-end encryption and ownership verification to ensure maximum security.

Why We Use End-to-End Encryption for Mobile Shares

Unlike SafeKey Pro, where encrypted shares are directly sent to the hardware device without ever leaving your browser, mobile shares need to be stored in the Inheriti® Vault until claimed.

This requires an extra layer of protection to secure the data while it's in the cloud. That’s why we use end-to-end encryption to ensure that mobile shares remain safe and secure during this temporary storage process.

Verification Methods for Mobile Shares

To make sure only the rightful owner can claim the mobile share, we’ve developed multiple ownership verification options:

1. QR Code Verification: When mobile users receive their share, it's encrypted with a secret key, and a QR code containing that key is sent to the email linked to their SafeID. After claiming the share through SafeKey Mobile, the user must scan this QR code to verify ownership, ensuring the share is only accessible to the rightful owner.

2. Inheriti® Auto-Verification: For convenience, mobile users can opt for automatic verification. In this method, Inheriti® verifies the mobile share in the background, eliminating the need for the user to manually scan the QR code. The share is verified automatically upon claiming, but this method requires placing trust in Inheriti® to handle verification securely.

3. Legal Entity Verification (Not available yet): In future releases, users will have the option to verify their shares through legal entities. This adds an additional level of trust and ensures that mobile share verification is backed by formal legal processes.

How It Works

Mobile shares are encrypted with a secret key, stored temporarily in the Inheriti® Vault, and verified through QR code scanning or Inheriti® auto-verification.

This multi-layered approach ensures that mobile shares are as secure as SafeKey Pro shares, offering robust protection even when stored in the cloud.
